Hawtree Creek Middle School Chapter

The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is a national organization devoted to building leadership capacity with middle schoolers. NJHS is affiliated with the National Honor Society (NHS) which students are eligible for in high school. Students in NJHS are required to uphold the
Five Pillars:

  • Scholarship

  • Citizenship

  • Character

  • Leadership

  • Service

Packing lunches for those less fortunate – December 2024

Members undergo a rigorous application process and those who are inducted should be very proud of their accomplishment. NJHS aims to help middle school students develop the knowledge and skills to become well-rounded student leaders in their school, community, and beyond. 

At Hawtree Creek Middle School, NJHS consists of dedicated students who have become role models for our school community. NJHS students plan, organize, and implement major school events, meet monthly, and maintain high academic and behavioral standards. Most importantly, NJHS students participate in community service in school and within the community.

Qualifications

In order to become a member of NJHS, students must be invited to apply. In order to receive an invitation, potential NJHS candidates must achieve and overall average of 94% or above for the 3 previous quarters.   

Once invited, interested candidates must complete an NJHS Application that includes information regarding the candidate’s

  • Leadership experience, academics, and awards

  • Awards

  • Extra-curricular activities such as teams, clubs, sports

  • Community service in or out of school. 

In addition, Candidates must also:

  • Obtain at least 3 recommendations from teachers

  • Compose an application essay.

New Members

Candidates who are accepted will be formally inducted to NJHS in a ceremony held at school. Once inducted, students are required to maintain high academic and behavioral standards to remain a member. In order to remain in NJHS, members are required to:

  • Maintain their average of 94% each quarter

  • Complete at least 10 hours of community service

    • 5 hours by January 31

    • 10 hours by June 28

  • Maintain a yearly log of all community service to be submitted in June

  • Attend monthly meetings

    • November 26, 2024

    • December 16, 2024

    • January 23, 2025

    • February 27, 2025

    • March 27, 2025

    • April 23, 2025

    • May 22, 2025

  • Exhibit the 5 pillars of NJHS: Citizenship, Character, Leadership, Service and Scholarship.

If an NJHS member fails to meet these standards, he/she will be dismissed from NJHS.

NJHS This Year

This year, the current NJHS members have already hit the ground running! Students helped to run Family Fun Night in November, lead tours for Open House, read to kindergartners during Celebration of Reading Week. Additionally, NJHS members also helped to pack over 1400 bagged lunches for those in need this past December.
